When your Kindness Is Repaid with Betrayal

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Samuel 23:1–14; Matthew 6:4 "That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly"

WORD FOR TODAY

Out of the kindness of his heart, David inquired of the Lord about helping the people of Keilah fight against the Philistines, and the Lord permitted him to do so.

However, the people of Keilah proved to be ungrateful.

David's willingness to help them was met with betrayal and danger (1 Samuel 23:1–14). They planned to hand him over to his enemy, Saul, but the Lord protected him.

Do not be discouraged when people respond to your kindness with ingratitude. Be assured that God is with you.

When the world turns its back on you, fix your eyes on the One who sees your good deeds and has promised to reward them in secret (Matthew 6:4).

Do not let the coldness of ingratitude freeze your heart. Instead, let God's love and grace continue to fuel your kindness.

Also, do not allow anyone to recruit you into hating someone who has done you no wrong.

In a world where kindness is often mistaken for weakness, choose to be a conduit of God's love and mercy. Your reward does not come from people but from the Lord, who sees every act of love done in His name.
